Exhibitions at Annantalo

Annantalo's exhibitions exhibit art by professional artists and by children and young people side by side. Exhibitions are made in collaboration with artists, organisations and schools. Annantalo's exhibitions aim to offer experiences in a wide range of different types of art.

The main target groups of the exhibitions are early childhood education (4–6 years old) and primary school children (7–12 years old). However, because the exhibitions often present media and contemporary art in a diverse way, there is always something interesting for young and adult visitors.

The exhibitions have an art education goal. They are connected to the world of children and young people introducing visitors to contemporary art. The themes arising from the exhibitions are also a part of Annantalo's teaching. Open programme is organised in connection with each exhibition ranging from workshops and guided tours to various events.

For many, Annantalo is the first visit to an art exhibition or gallery. We strive to make the visit as easy as possible. An exhibition etiquette has been created for the exhibition, which explains the practices related to visiting the exhibition and you can always ask the staff for advice. Our galleries also have brochures, additional information related to the content, and inspiration material.

Exhibitions curated by children and young people

At Annantalo, children and young people have the opportunity to participate in the selection of exhibition content. For this purpose, Annantalo has established a student jury intended to familiarise itself with various aspects of exhibition production, especially curating exhibition content. The jury is involved in the selection of gallery exhibitions, for example.

The composition of the student jury varies from term to term. It includes students of Annantalo's evening groups enrolled in different art courses. The jury meets 1–2 times a year, usually at the end of the year. Participants are recruited to the jury annually.

Performances at Annantalo

The Annansali performance venue receives visits of the pearls of the performing arts. We also act as co-producers and offer residencies for creators of new children's performances, including groups selected for Itu Stage (Itujen näyttämö). Through international networks, we have become acquainted with interesting performers and annually invite them to visit Finland to perform and hold workshops.

Annantalo's performances are mainly aimed at children under school age, and there are performances in the mornings, which suits early childhood education groups and the smallest in home care. Weekday morning performances are free. Affordable tickets for evening and weekend performances are sold through Lippu.fi.  Annansali also stages performances reserved for Culture Kids, some of which we make open to all during the year.

The year's programme includes four collaborative festivals: Sampo International Puppet Theatre Festival in August,Small Size Days for children aged 0–6 in January, Huraa! Theatre Week in March and Annantalo's children's and young people's performing arts week during Children's Culture Week in May.

In the spring 2025, there are many performances for children and families, during the festivals, also on Sundays.
